Friendly Costumes For Older Children
Isn’t Halloween great fun when you have little kids? You can dress them up in cute costumes like clowns or animals or cartoon characters. Everyone will tell you how adorable they peep. Now what happens when they get to be eight or ten or twelve years old? Especially the boys, they just don’t want to seek cute anymore. You’ll know they’ve reached the age of gore when they want to dress as a character with severed body parts and/or leaking body fluids. Anything that is even vaguely grotesque is also likely to be considered desirable. Where does this leave parents? Are you doomed to several years of blood-dripping, brain-spilling, scar-faced costumes? Not necessarily.
There are still some non-gory costumes that are chilly enough for big kids. Begin by checking out the most recent favorite movies. Harry Potter is smooth recent enough to build witches and wizards popular costumes even with all body parts intact. Fabricate the basic costume with an former graduate’s robe, and add individual touches to make it specific to your child’s favorite character. Any of the superhero movies could provide inspiration too. Spiderman is especially popular since he appeared in black. Pirates of the Caribbean can also offer a few ideas, although some of these may be a bit gory.
If the broad veil doesn’t inspire you or your child, try the small screen in your living room. Anime characters are well-liked with many older kids and costumes can be easily duplicated with the use of some make-up and simple clothing.
Another idea for bigger kids is funny costumes. Take the old traditional hobo costume and add something zany like a crazy hat or humorous sign. You can also try adding something a little unique to a more “normal” costume. How about a doctor or nurse with chicken pox?
You can also scrutinize at your child’s hobbies or interests for costume ideas. Does he like medieval video games? How about dressing up as a knight or mage? Do you have a science fiction fan in your house? An alien costume can be simple to put together. Does your youngster enjoy sports?
