As September comes to an end everyone can feel a slight chill in the air, the sun takes a reddish hue at time when it sets casting long shadows as you know the time is drawing near.

All Hallows Eve.

Halloween is one of the biggest holidays of the year and it generates over 5 billion dollars in sales per year and not all of that is because of candy. Costumes, Decorations and such effect up the bulk of this budget as I have seen costumes go from the store bought uninspired ones to beefy blown do it yourself handmade ones and the prices of these costumes range from a few bucks to over five thousand dollars.

But some people are wondering what to be for this Halloween? Well with this guide there are a bunch of ideas to get you started and I am going to break it down into three categories: Little Kids, teenagers and adults.

Little Kids:

Baby Animals – Who can resist the cute face of a tiger or lion? There are more than a few costumes out there and they’re not that expensive. On a recent trip to Big Lots I picked up a tiger outfit for my niece and it was less than 20.00. Throw in some face paint for a pink nose and whiskers and you’re all set to roam around the neighborhood. If mom or dad wants to get in on the fun you could dress up as a lion tamer, another animal of the same species (papa and baby tiger anyone? ) or a ringmaster (just don’t expect them to jump thru hoops.)

Little Slugger – Whtether it’d be baseball, football, basketball or hockey there’s more than a few ideas that you could go with this one. Have them carry around a wiffle bat for baseball or one of those foam baskeballs / footballs for either sport. If mom and dad want to get in on the fun they can dress up as a referee, coach or a team player.

Monster Hunter – A small monster hunter in training which would be someone that’s ready to rid the world of any injurious creepy and crawly monsters out there. This would be a simple outfit you could either give them nerf weapons such as a N-Strike Maverick or make your own out of foam, cardboard and such. If mom and dad want to get in on the action they could either be a monster or ghost, their boss or sensei or even a fellow monster hunter (father and son team)

Little Ghoul – Whether it’s dracula, the wolfman or the mummy this microscopic ghoul is ready to hit the streets and derive some candy! This can either be a store bought costume or invent up your own ideas! If mom and dad want to get in on the act they could be a villager, victim or monster hunter.

Teenagers:

Rock Star – Ok, who doesn’t think about being a rockstar? This can in any different direction from Elvis and the Beatles to punk rock or heavy metal. Costume Shops have a variety of wigs and such or you could go down to your goodwill to see what clothes are available (trust me I needed costume bits and I went to ross and found EXACTLY what I needed for cheap!)

Legions of the Undead – Fresh out of the crypt either by military experiment, meteor radiation or some unknown factor the dead have started to rise and walk the streets. This is a simple costume idea that only requires some makeup, fake blood and faded clothes. You could add also some certain contacts as well to get that vacant stare look, unprejudiced start watching zombie movies and practice how to croak out “Braiiiiinsss”

Horror Movie Victim – Oops, these kids were not supposed to go approach that camp site that was host to a few murders and built on a old indian burial ground but did they listen? Nooooooooo. This would require a few more bits of fake blood, prostethics (such as gashes, scars and such), old clothes and maybe some prop weapons cut out so it looks like there’s a machete buried in this poor fool’s head.

Hollywood Superstar – This is a simple idea which only requires some dress clothes, sunglasses and dress shoes. You could be you’re very hold hollywood mega star as you’re the envy of everyone in the neighborhood. Also have a celphone with you (either real or erroneous) and have it go off and talk the way the people in the industry talk (definately watch some Entourage for this costume belief)

Adults :

Unusual Day Vampire – People who thought that Dracula dressed up in a cape and such were .. well.. misinformed. Vampires are all around us and they can dress either in business suits (add some contacts and fangs), like punks (weird hairstyle, extreme clothes), rockers (leather jacket, blue jeans) or anything in between. You can literally go wild with ideas for costumes for this.

The Menagarie – Unleash you’re inner animal whether it be lion, tiger or bear. There are plenty ideas to go in this route and some sites such as lyonshel.com offer custom prostethic foam masks at a decent mark. Add in a wig, clothes, ears and a tail that you can make yourself of buy at a costume shop an you’re ready to hit the party and prowl. And the best thing about these masks? You don’t have to take them off to drink and such!

Pirates Vs. Ninjas – Ok, people have wondered which are cooler.. Pirates or Ninjas? I think they’re both equally icy but who says you can’t mix and match? What would be cooler than a masked ninja but he had a pirates sword and talked like a pirate? The possibilites here are endless.

Afraid of Clowns? – Who isn’t? But these clowns are not the ones you’ve seen in the circus, these are demonic ones that would steal your soul in a heartbeat. Face paint, floppy shoes and a clown costume could be a way to go but you could dress in any manner you like and dont’ forget a prop weapon such as a cleaver or dagger.

These are only some of the ideas that I managed to come up with.. feel free to mix and match (undead rock star anyone? ) and look out in your neighborhood for some of the local halloween superstores (like Spirit) but also feel free to go to your local Walmart, Big Lots or even the local dollar stores and goodwill stores as an idea for a costume can come from anywhere!
