How To Get Great Halloween Costumes On A Budget

Your Pirate Costumes

Halloween is an intriguing time for kids all over the U.S. It gives them a chance to dress up in scary, or not-so-scary garb, and gallivant around the neighborhood in search of sweets. But as fun as Halloween is for kids, it can be a time of stress for adults, especially this year. Money is tight. And buying candy to give away to other peoples children is almost not an option. To top it off, if we want to make our children gratified, we have to find them the best Halloween costume on a budget.

I understand this dilemma. And I have a few suggestions to help ease the pocket book when searching for this year.

Thrift Store Galore

I’m not guaranteeing that you will what you are looking for in a thrift store, but you might get lucky. And even if you cannot find a costume, that doesn’t mean you cannot make one out of the items you might collect from a thrift store. If you have a little girl who wants to be a princess you might be able to prefer up a dress in the wedding section of the store. They might even carry tiaras. One year I completely mutilated a pink choir dress and turned it into a genie costume. It was a hit!

Explore Your Creative Side

Yes, believe it or not, nearly anyone can make their own costume. Home made costumes can be made from anything in your closet that you were getting ready to rid yourself of, like old sheets, or holey plaid shirts. Holy plaid shirts have estimable use for someone dressing as a scare crow. And, as everyone knows, sheets are great for creating ghost costumes on a budget.

My mother made a witch dress for me when I was six, but she made it with durable and stretchy material. I was a witch for the next six years.

Ebay

I will always dote on Ebay for cheap Halloween costumes. The last few years I have bought all of my children’s Halloween costumes on Ebay. I have no complaints on price or quality. Always be sure and read your listings thoroughly though.

Garage Sale Baby!

Yard sales and garage sales are a mountainous area to find Halloween costumes on a budget. In some parts of the country, if weather permits, yard sales and garage sales are still ran after Halloween is over. This is the perfect time to stock up for the next year.

Plan Ahead

When Halloween is over, start your plan for next year. Most people realize that when seasons end, seasonal items are sometimes marked down up to 90-95%. You have to know where and when to shop. The point is to be aware and steal advantage of these sales. It’s very easy to say, “Oh, yeah, I should just pick one up for next year,” and then never do it. But if you planned and followed through, you would be thanking yourself later.
